Later that evening, Zeb was escorted to the lab, where he met Erhardt and two other men. Erhardt introduced the two others as Dr. Rosenberg and Dr. Hagen. They were both doctors who were working with the SSF on various experiments.
Zeb overheard them talking about working on an experiment involving surgical transplants and alien DNA.
They were trying to create a new type of super soldier. Dr. Rosenberg was the head surgeon, and Dr. Hagen was a geneticist. Dr. Hagen took Zeb aside and asked him what Erhardt had told Zeb about the type of work they were doing.
Zeb explained to Dr. Hagen what Erhardt had told him about the SSF and their work. He also told Dr. Hagen that he knew nothing about their current experiment.
Dr. Hagen moved toward Zeb so close that Zeb could smell alcohol on Dr. Hagen's breath. Dr. Hagen stared into Zeb's eyes and asked, "are you certain?"
Zeb felt a cold chill go down his spine when he noticed something strange about Dr. Hagen's eyes. For a split second, he noticed a lizard-like slit in Dr. Hagen’s eyes that appeared and vanished in a second.
Zeb was so startled that he could not respond. Dr. Hagen said, "As long as you are here, I will be your superior," and walked away. Zeb knew Dr. Hagen must be a Reptilian Hybrid, but Zeb was unsure what kind.
Zeb turned around and headed back to his room when he met Erhardt leaving the lab. He was afraid to ask Erhardt about what he saw in Dr. Hagen's eyes, so Zeb asked Erhardt, "what type of super soldier are they building?"
Erhardt looked at Zeb with a puzzled look and said, "They are not building any super soldiers; where did you hear that?" Zeb knew Erhardt was lying, so he replied, "I may have heard wrong; forget it."
Zeb returned to his room to try again to connect the Q-Port. He decided he had to escape, and the Q-Port was the only way out.
He went to get the device that he had hidden under his mattress, but the device was gone. Zeb was baffled. "Did I lose it, or did someone take it," he asked himself. He couldn't understand why they would take it; after all, they told him it had been disabled.
He went to the control room, where he saw Erhardt sitting at a computer. "My Q-Port device is missing," Zeb said. "I can't help you with that," Erhardt said. "I didn't take it," Zeb pleaded. "Someone must have taken it," Erhardt told him.
Zeb asked, "Why would anyone take my device?" Erhardt ignored the question and said, "You should get some rest; tomorrow will be your first day of testing your abilities."
Zeb went to his room to lie down. He tried to sleep but couldn't; he kept thinking about what had happened. After tossing and turning, he got up, put on a robe, and walked down the hallway to the kitchen for a drink of water.
While in the kitchen, he could hear Dr. Müller's voice. It sounded like he was talking to someone in the next room. Zeb put his ear up to the wall to listen. He could hear someone speaking to Müller, but it was in a strange language in a high-pitched voice. Zeb thought he knew what it was, but it couldn't be.
He listened harder and realized that it was the voice of an alien. Zeb ran back to his room and locked the door. He sat there afraid and didn't sleep at all that night. Early the following day, he heard a knock at his door. It was Dr. Müller, "Herr Zeb, are you ready?
-A Note From The Author-
For Zeb, the reality is sinking in.
He’s wondering what else might be lurking
out there in the space-time continuum.
One thing’s for sure: he cannot trust anyone.
